Location based services App - Bavaria in historical maps

The new app "Bavaria in historical maps" of the Bavarian State Library, offers a new digital experience: With tablet and smartphone, you can go on a fascinating journey through Bavaria's historic maps. "Bavaria in historical maps" available from 29.04.2013 first in Apple's App Store; will be available in summer via Google Play.

bavarikon - Kultur und Wissensschätze Bayerns

On 16.04.2013 bavarikon, the culture and ken portal of the Free State of Bavaria, was formally released in a beta version. It contains arts, culture and knowledge treasures from nearly 20 Bavarian cultural institutions. Image Search in digital mass data - An innovative project of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek and the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute goes online.

A community project of the Munich Digitization Center and the Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institute of Berlin opens up new horizons for science and education: the similarity-based search on big digital databases. Newly developed 3D-BSB-Explorer in the exhibition Magnificent Manuscripts

The 3D-BSB-Explorer is an innovative, gesture-controlled presentation system that has been developed jointly by the Munich DigitiZation Center of the Bavarian State Library and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute. The device serves the three-dimensional presentation of unique manuscripts and rare printed books. Currently, the 3D-BSB-Explorer is used for the exhibition Magnificent Manuscripts. The Scanning Equipment of the Munich Digitization Center

The Munich Digitization Center uses the following scanning devices:

Two scanner of the type "Grazer Kameratisch" for the digitization of very precious or fragile manuscripts and books. Format: Up to A3 Resolution: Up to 600ppi More pictures
Three innovative Scan Robots by the Austrian company Treventus, capable of scanning up to 1800 pages per hour. Two of them are currently used in the project "Digitization of 16th century printed books (V16 digital)". Format: Up to A3 Resolution: Up to 300ppi More pictures Video at YouTube
New: The prototype of a thermographic scanner for the digitization of watermarks, developed by the Fraunhofer-Institute for Wood Research - Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut (WKI) in Braunschweig (Germany). MDZ and WKI are in the process of compiling the specifications for the whole system, in cooperation with the Institut for Book Restoration and Conservation and the Manuscript Department. Productive state is scheduled for April 2009. First use case will be the project for the digitisdation of the blockbooks of the Bavarian State Library, funded by the German Research Foundation. A scanner for maps, posters and other oversize objects. Format: Up to A0 Resolution: Up to 400ppi
Six bookscanner of different types (either desktop solutions or standalone devices), used for regular books and manuscripts. Format: Up to A1 Resolution: Up to 600ppi
Several conventional flat bed scanner and digital cameras for miscellaneous purposes. Format: Up to A3 Resolution: Up to 2400ppi
Several printers and a Microfilm Reader Printer for analog output.
The BSB München cooperates with the company digitalfoto-trainer.de of Stefan Steib since 1998. Mr. Steib is a consultant for color management and digital photograpy. His trainig courses, coachings and quality checks of our scanning technology help us to improve the quality of our work.
